Day 123: Double Headed Tulip

It's Teacher Appreciation Day tomorrow, and all the kids are taking a flower in for their teacher. These are the ones Elizabeth selected from the store today. When I was putting them in the vase, I noticed one of them was double-headed. I never saw anything like that before! I really like the color of them too.

Day 120: Treasure

This is a little collection of things my daughter found in the back yard this afternoon. It's funny what kids find interesting.

Day 118: Genesis 9:12-13

"And God said, "This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth."

I have been wanting to get a picture of a rainbow for a while now. We've had several days where the conditions seemed right - heavy showers with lots of breaks in the clouds for sunlight to get through - but no rainbows. Then finally this evening I glanced through the kitchen window and saw this beauty sitting over the house opposite. I think this may be one of the widest rainbows I have ever seen. I took several pictures of it, but it was already fading by the time I got my shoes on and got outside! I'm quite pleased with this one though.

Day 112: School Nature Hike

Elizabeth's class went on a nature hike today. We walked a couple of blocks from the school to a small creek. The kids got to wade in the water and tried to catch things with little nets. Then we walked a little further and stopped for a snack by the water's edge, then walked back to the school. They all had so much fun. Edward came too. He didn't want to hold my hand while we were walking and created a bit of a fuss, but once we got there he was well behaved and had a good time too. I had to go in the water too, so I could keep a hold of him. I went prepared for that though. He was completely exhausted by the time we got home and slept for three hours. I was sure Elizabeth would want a nap too, but she was still full of beans.

I didn't even know this place existed. It's really nice and peaceful down there, and the water isn't too deep. I think we might go back with Daddy, maybe when my mum finally gets here if the water hasn't dried up by then.

Day 102: Splash

More rain today. My mum is coming out for a visit in a week, I really hope the weather brightens up by then!

Day 90: Ever Get the Feeling You're Being Watched?

I caught this fly on a tree in my backyard when I was just wandering around looking for subjects to shoot. I saw it land on the opposite side of the tree, and was sure it would fly away when I crept round to that side, but it stayed put. It even stayed still while I took a few pictures. Then I moved my camera to adjust the aperture, and it finally flew away. I was really pleased with the clarity of the shots I got though.

Day 87: Don't Bug Me

I spotted this bug, and several of his friends, all over our rose bushes this afternoon. Does anyone know what it is? Is it going to destroy my roses this year?

Day 85: Dandelion

Sometimes I worry that I'll run out of things to photograph in my backyard, but every time I go out there with my camera I always end up finding lots of subjects! I took lots of shots of this dandelion with my macro lens. I sprayed it with water and got some nice shots of the water drops. I'll be posting a set of them on Photoblog soon.

Day 82: Reflections

I took this in the back yard this afternoon. It might be too small to see on here, but if you look closely you should be able to see a reflection of the bush in the water drops. I've wanted to try this for a while. This one didn't come out quite as sharp as I had hoped, but I'm still quite pleased with it.

Day 74: What's for Dinner?

I captured this bird in a tree in my back yard when I was out there this afternoon taking pictures while the kids played. It wasn't until I uploaded it to my computer that I realized he had a bug in his beak! So I ended up being much happier with the shot than I thought I would :)
